This news article is about a recent diet called the K-E diet. This diet has been noticed by many brides as they prepare to fit into their dream dresses on their big day. This article questions whether or not there is too much pressure for women, and brides in particular, to be perfect. Also, this article states how this form of diet is unhealthy and ultimately won't last. What are the key controversial topics in this article and how do they pertain to the female image in pop-culture or any topic in pop-culture?

Although there is a big argument against the use of this diet, the whole idea can be seen in a positive light. This form of dieting is definitely healthier and safer than a crash diet or starving yourself. People get so desperate that they refer to eating nothing for days just to shed those extra pounds. By referring to the K-E diet, the experimenter will still receive the needed nutrients and calories throughout the day in order to maintain a health body. Weight loss has always been a big issue in popular culture and a lot of the new diets are not healthy alternatives. Normal commentators might find this way of losing weight as desperate and inappropriate, but I feel as long as it's healthy and not causing serious side effects, it is the woman's own body and her own wedding day, so I feel as she has the right to act as she wants to achieve her goal.

  2. Well the huge controversial topic is the fact that we as a society are lazy. We have to do this weird tube diet to loose weight, when we can just go outside and exercise. Yes the women in the article stated how she doesnt have "time" to do workouts. But when in reality im sure she does. We make time to get online and check out emails or our facebooks, or even time to lay around to just catch our breath. But this woman and the women who do this are plain lazy. They dont take the time to actually make the effort to work out. It only takes the motivation and 10 minutes a day to work out. nothing can happen instantaneously which means you need to make a plan for yourself to do the work. Put the work in and get the results in return.

The biggest controversy in this article pertaining to the image of women would be the argument of what is more important to a woman on her wedding day, how she looks versus how she feels. The way mainstream portrays a wedding is the way that as the bride is walking down the aisle, everyone looks at her as if she was the most beautiful women in the world. Because of this, women believe that they need to be the perfect size to walk down the aisle in the dress that they crash dieted to get into. The fact that you are getting married means that you are loved by someone else that wants to spend the rest of their life with you for better or for worse. The way you feel should be how excited you are to spend the rest of your life with that person at the alter not the way people react to how you look as you are walking down the aisle. Mainstream ideas make people think that you will only be loved if you are the most beautiful bride in the world to everyone, where as reality should say that you are the most beautiful person to the person at the alter. If the bride believes that than desperate diets like these will not be in existence anymore and the health of women will increase. The side effects of constipation and lack of energy sound like two things that could make an extremely unpleasant bride on her wedding day.

  4. The first recurring theme throughout the article is the pressure women in today's society have to uphold a certain image of being "beautiful." Everyday millions of females (and males) are being bombarded with all these ads and commercials, memes that say you aren't beautiful right now but you CAN be beautiful if you have this or look like that. This K-E diet takes advantage of this idea in which it can help make one more better looking through a rapid weight lost. There is an understanding that brides want to look good on their wedding day but really, if they are getting married perhaps their partner loves (whatever what love actually means) them for who they are?

Another theme I noticed is the fact that people of today's society want everything fast, their internet connection speed, their car, or what ever it is...gotta go fast. People want to see results fast and again K-E does take advantage of this idea. Apparently there are no major side affects, I honestly feel it's the females own body so they can decide whatever they want to do with it. There have always that good feeling of hard work and results, perhaps they miss out on that when they go through this procedure? Hopefully they have a happy marriage with also their new body.

  5. While this may not be the healthiest way to lose those extra pound, but I say go for it. As long as people are aware of the health risks, nobody should be able to stop them. Personally,I feel like a couple extra pounds never hurt, but in a society that judges people heavily based on appearance, these type of diets will continue to arise.

  6. I think this article proves how much society is obsessed with images of people. I think on your wedding day you should be yourself. I think if you want to lose weight or become more fit then you should find the time to do so in a natural healthy way. Weddings should be about celebrating everlasting love and not about the material side of it. Our culture has turned the view of weddings into this idea about looking perfect and beautiful and having the best dress, food, hair, body, etc. K-E is just trying to make money and is using the sad truth that women will fall for it. I think instead of coming up with more and more ways to lose weight to become beautiful our society needs to learn to see natural beauty and remember what that is.

I think this article is a classic news story about some crazy diet. While I do not personally believe this is a safe or healthy diet, it's still what people choose to do. For however long this world is going to last, people are going to be forever dieting in extreme ways. I think this is a great example of how Americans can be lazy, procrastinate and want to be the best, all rolled into one article. We always want the shortcut, quick and easy way to do things. You know you are going to get married, why no start eating healthier sooner. That would help lose some pounds if you don't have time to work out. I guess in the end, it is still the person’s body and they do have the right to say how and when they will lose the weight.

  8. Personally, I find it disappointing that brides feel the need to use these crazy diets at all. When they're at their wedding, they're with all of their closest friends and family. That is the one small group of people in the world that you know for sure like you for who you are and not what dress size you're wearing. I think it's sad that women feel the need to go to these great lengths to try to look better for the people that are going to like them no matter what. It just shows how important a woman's image is to her in this current day and age

  9. Like most people have stated, the is a n unhealthy alternative to exercise for people who are to lazy to maintain an active lifestyle. Most people plan their wedding some time in advance. If you can make room for fifteen minutes a day of exercise you will not only begin to loose weight but also start a lifestyle that is much more respectable than a feeding tube in your nose. You can even do it with your spouse and it can be a bonding experience leading up to your wedding. Too often you hear of brides who are rushed to the hospital on or near their wedding day due to dehydration or malnutrition all due to an attempt to loose those few extra pounds. This is a statistic that should not exist and does not need to exist if we all stop the immediate results mentality that runs our modern society today.

The K-E diet of women using a feeding tube to lose weight before their wedding day may seem like a healthy diet; however, losing 20 pounds over 10 days in any circumstance is unhealthy. Your body is not made to lose weight that fast. It needs the right amount of exercise, nutrients, and water. With this diet, you are losing 2 of these three things. If women depend solely on the feeding tube and do absolutely no exercise, then when she takes the tube out she will gain all of the weight back within days. Most of the weight that these women lose is not fat or muscle, but water weight. I believe that if a woman wants to lose weight that bad, then they should get in the gym, start working out, and eating right. This is the healthiest way to lose weight and the results last longer and have the benefit of toning muscles. I know that the popular culture of society today is to be thin and beautiful, but women should not have to resort to feeding tubes or any other unhealthy way of losing weight. The K-E diet is not cheap and if the women exercised and didn’t spend their money on the diet, then they could use that money towards their wedding.

  11. I personally believe that if brides are pressured this much to look perfect that they will not eat for ten days and shove a feeding tube up their noses, then that is pathetic. This article is a good example of current pop culture pressuring females to lose weight. Our culture today puts too much emphasis on underweight women as the ideal look for "perfect" females. This type of pressure can lead woman to take part in diets such as this. I feel that there is absolutely no way that this diet can be safe. Just because the solution fed to a woman's stomach contains important nutrients does not make it nutritional. Woman need food and starving themselves for ten days is not healthy. Also, just because people can lose twenty pounds in ten days does not mean they will keep the weight off. It is most commonly found that starvation diets such as this can actually lead to quicker weight gain once the diet has ended. Overall, I strongly believe that this diet is not healthy and pop culture should not give females the idea that they have to be thin to be perfect.

  12. The article quotes the doctors saying that it's an "effective way of dieting," the K-E diet is really nothing more than crash dieting. Our current culture is trying to push two different messages at the same time. For example, in magazines such as Woman's Health, half of the content is "Loving your body" while the other half is "How to lose weight." Headlines will always be trying to persuade people that they either look perfect, or not perfect enough. Current weddings are already costing around 1/3 of an average American's income. Since most people tend to plan their weddings in advance, I think the brides should be able to find a different way to lose weight if it really bothers them. It shouldn't have to cost $1500.

  13. This article is an excellent example of how our culture is pushing females to the limits to be skinny. During the article Dr. Pietro states how the K-E Diet is a good way to diet with minimal side effects, I find this very hard to believe. The pressure that women face from our society is outrageous, the fact that anyone would even use this diet to lose ten pounds for there wedding is unbelievable. The woman in the picture clearly looks like she is in distress and walking around with a tube in your nose for ten days is much more embarrassing then ten extra pounds on your wedding day.

  14. This article is a perfect example for pop culture. It shows how women are willing to do anything to become skinny and fit in their dream wedding dress. I believe this diet is not the greatest idea. The doctor in the article mentions that this diet is safe, with some side effects. Personally, I believe this diet does more harm than good. It is not healthy to lost ten to twenty pounds in the period of ten days. Also, women who did this diet would look a bit out of the ordinary having tubes going up her nose. I'm sure they would not feel comfortable going out in public looking like that.

  15. Prompt 2:
It is definitely a fact that society often focuses on the material things. Of course every woman wants to feel like a queen on their wedding day, but going on a crash weight loss plan using the K-E diet is not necessarily the best way to get into the optimal size dress you want. Women often worry about looking their best, or being the skinniest they can, but that is not usually what everyone around them even cares about. The article talks about it being a safe way to lose weight before a wedding day, but is it really worth the side effects? Losing 20 pounds in 10 days is not healthy no matter who you are. The woman in the article does not look happy at all, so why would women look at her and say anything like "wow that woman looks amazing! I want to look like that for my wedding day!" It's amazing what society can push women into doing. It isn't right for any woman to feel pressured into dropping weight in an unhealthy manner just for one day.

The new concept “The K-E Diet”, which is used by brides to quickly lose weight with feeding tubes in order to fit into the wedding dress, causes an intense controversy in society. There are numerous people holding on their strong opinions toward this special diet method. Although the publics’ arguments are different and various, there is one thing in common – a negative attitude against the K-E diet. Many people think this diet is highly extreme and crazy. It is very dangerous and unhealthy for people to eat nothing in ten days but totally depend on a tube to apply nutrients for survival. Some people points out people’s increasing laziness and willingness of pursuing fast speed in our modern society by comparing the K-E diet with their personal experiences of normally losing weight. In addition, there are many people reference and response others’ comments to express their own agreements or disagreements based on others’ opinions, naturally establishing small communities. The interaction within the community obviously reflects group of people’s similar point of view, making the comments become more persuasive and effective. Among all the comments, a few of them highly stand out because of their rude wording. On the one hand, it indicates that the development of our culture and society provides enough freedom for the public to bravely speak out their true ideas. On the other hand, it shows people’s attitudes of accepting the new and especially challenging ideas and concepts. It is always hard for most of people to accept new things that totally challenge their old perceptions at the very beginning. However, as time goes on, people start gradually accepting or getting used to the new ideas; there will be less and less opposite opinions or strong disagreements.

  17. The image of women in pop culture has been a hot button topic for many, many years and this new diet plays right into the controversy of image. This diet seems to prey on women's 'perfect wedding' dreams by offering a nearly fool-proof, "healthy" way to look their best on the most important day of their life. However, the main issue that I see arising from this article is a 'get fit quick' idealization for many women. As the one women quoted in the article confesses,"I was tired. I didn't feel like exercising." and this diet is by no means a substitute for legitimate weight loss. Most people have a mindset for instant gratification, and that is becoming increasingly poignant in Western society. This crash diet is by no means an acceptable way to lose weight but it does appeal to the pop culture idea of a quick fix and it keeps women feeling like they fit into that acceptable image.

There are a lot of people who have taken the side against this new diet, while some others are in agreement that this is a non threatening way to lose weight. This article definitely has an effect on the values of women. Women strive to look their best on a daily basis, but is going to this much of an extreme worth? Or healthy? Today's society seems to tell them that it that the benefits outweigh the negatives.
